End of a platform

I saw this article a couple of days ago about the end-of-life for HP-UX. While MQ has not produced a new version for that operating system for a number of years (the last release was 9.0, around 2017), it’s still a bit sad to see.

I did some hunting in my archives, and found this souvenir CD cover from the first version of MQ we did for HP-UX in 1995:

Inside were the signatures of the team who worked on creating that release. About 20 names, most of which I can a) read and b) remember.

It wasn’t quite the first port of MQ V2 to a non-IBM platform (and I don’t count the rebadged V1 EzBridge products), but it did last a lot longer than the very first port. And we kept up with the different hardware options, including the Itanium processors.

So, Farewell then HP-UX
One of many, all slightly different
And now perhaps,
Rebranded HP-EX

(apologies to E J Thribb)
